We here at Unofficial-Official Song of the South, just want to say that we love Disney's song of the south. Our official position is that it is the most underrated movie, never to have been released in the USA (no dvd was ever released here). It was only released overseas briefly in Europe. We are hoping Disney will release this classic in America, To this date the word is... no. So we are bringing the movie back to you.

Song of the South, a 1946 Disney film, was the first film to mix animation and live actors and was based on the "Uncle Remus" stories of Joel Chandler Harris. Joel Harris grew up during the civil war in Georgia. During this time he spent a lot of time writing and publishing the tales told to him by former slaves. These stories, many of which Joel Harris learned from an old black man he called "Uncle George" were first published as columns in the Atlanta Constitution and were later syndicated nationwide and published in a book. Joel Harris's Uncle Remus was a fictitious old slave and philosopher who told entertaining fables about Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox and other forest creatures in a southern dialect.

Song of the south dvd was released in the mid 1990's in Europe. Disney received poor publicity from the release and terminated the distribution. The remaining stock of Song of the South DVD's were put up for auction. We obtained much of the song of the south dvd reserves. We are proud to present this version of song of the south on dvd.
